MCDONALD’S RIVERWAR BRINGS TOP MISSOURI AND ILLINOIS AREA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYERS TO NEW CHAIFETZ ARENA ON APRIL 12

OVER 40 DIVISION I BASKETBALL SIGNEES FACE OFF AT CHAIFETZ ARENA AT SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY

CHAIFETZ ARENA OPENING WEEKEND A SLAM DUNK WITH HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS AND MCDONALD’S RIVERWAR

(St. Louis, MO – February 21, 2008) Over 40 of the area’s top men’s and women’s high school basketball players get an early taste of playing in a Division I venue when they square off in the McDonald’s Riverwar at the new Chaifetz (“SHAY-fetz”) Arena at Saint Louis University on Saturday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m.

All advance tickets for the McDonald’s Riverwar are $10 and go on sale on Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at MetroTix.com, MetroTix outlets at select Schnucks and Macy stores and charge by phone at 314-534-1111.

The McDonald’s Riverwar brings an entire day of basketball pandemonium including a Missouri vs. Illinois women’s game at 3:30 p.m., a slam dunk and 3-point contest at 5 p.m., a St. Louis vs. Kansas City men’s game at 6 p.m. and a Missouri vs. Illinois men’s game at 7:45 p.m.  The Harlem Globetrotters begin the busy basketball-filled weekend at Chaifetz Arena when they take on the Washington Generals on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. 

Numerous area signees are scheduled to participate including Saint Louis University’s Femi John and Brett Thompson, Missouri’s Marcus Denmon and Steve Moore and Southern Illinois’ Torres Roundtree, Anthony Booker, and Kevin Dillard.

The game also highlights some of St. Louis’ top players from the class of 2008 including Scott Suggs (Washington), Johnny Coy (Arizona St.), John Brandenburg (Virginia), Lewis Jackson (Purdue), Stan Simpson (Illinois) and the undecided Kramer Soderberg out of St. Charles West High School.

In the women’s game, Saint Louis University signees Devonna Smith, Alisha Goodwin and Janisha “Pooh” Gearlds get an early test on their home court for the next four years.  The women’s game also features New Haven High School standout and Duke signee Kathleen Scheer, Yvonne Anderson (Texas), Sarah Boothe (Stanford) and Alina Vorenenko (Kansas St.)
