CHAIFETZ ARENA AT SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY NEARING 90% COMPLETION
GLOBAL SPECTRUM PROVIDES CHAIFETZ ARENA CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
(St. Louis, MO – February 13, 2008) As construction continues at the new Chaifetz (SHAY-fetz) Arena, Global Spectrum, operators of the 10,600-seat multi-purpose arena, offers updates on the progress of Chaifetz Arena and some interesting “fun facts” about the facility which is scheduled to open when the Harlem Globetrotters take the court on Friday, April 11.
FUN FACTS:
3.2 million – number of Ted Drewes regular sized concretes that could be filled with the amount of structural concrete used (20,100 cubic yards)
7,077 – number of St. Louis Rams Offensive Linemen needed to replicate the weight of steel used (1,150 tons)
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:
The majority of the focus is on the interior of the building. Approximately 8,500 of the 10,600 seats are installed in the lower and upper bowl. Finishing touches are being completed on the three premium star suites and four large dressing rooms located on the event level. Technicians are testing the four 14’ x 48’ scoreboards located in each corner of the arena and the 360-degree LED message board. Testing has also begun for the HVAC and electrical systems. The cabinetry, case work, and flooring in the 14 suites on the north and south side of the arena are nearing completion. The floor is being installed in the practice facility, which is adjacent to the arena on the west side. On the concourse, the patterned flooring is close to completion.
WHAT’S NEXT:
The remainder of the 10,600 seats will be installed including special cushioned seats located in the lower level of the sections in between the two basketball hoops. Construction of the bleachers located on the west side of the arena is being completed and will host the student section for all Billiken games. Workers will lay down the floor in the premium club area on the north side of the event level. Billiken graphics and court lines are being painted on the basketball floor, which is currently located in northern Illinois. Workers will pave the VIP parking lot located immediately to the west of the practice facility.
EMPLOYEE UPDATE:
Global Spectrum has recently hired four new employees adding to the current staff. The new editions include Brad Heap, Director of Finance, who is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions and human resource coordination for Global Spectrum. Brad is a SLU graduate and is a native of Swansea, Illinois. Tim Getty has been hired as Director of Operations and will manage the maintenance and operations of the building and the entire operations staff. Tim has over 15 years of industry experience and was instrumental in the opening of the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Jenny Madras is the building’s Group Sales Manager and is in charge of soliciting group sales business for family shows, concerts, and other select events at Chaifetz Arena. Jenny is a former captain of the SLU Billiken golf team and is a native of St. Louis. Kacy Harmon is also a St. Louis native and joins the team as Box Office Manager responsible for overseeing all ticketing operations and the box office staff. Kacy has over 10 years of industry-related experience with the St. Louis Cardinals, Gateway Grizzlies and most recently the Memphis Motorsports Park.
