NINETY THOUSAND ST. LOUIS CHILDREN IN NEED OF SUPPLIES

TO START SCHOOL THIS FALL 

Disney On Ice to Join KidSmart to Help Bag the Basics 

(ST. LOUIS, MO August 4, 2010) — Nearly 90,000 local, school-aged children will start school in just a few short weeks without many of the most basic school supplies they need to learn and succeed: pencils, paper, markers, crayons and glue.

 To empower these children in need to succeed in school, Disney On Ice is partnering with St. Louis-based KidSmart to “Bag the Basics” for school during the charity’s community driven, back-to-school supply drive, and “Push for Pencils”.

 On Thursday, August 12, from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Chaifetz Arena Box Office, #1 South Compton Avenue, families donating a bag of new, basic school supplies (see details below) will receive a free ticket to see an evening performance of Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics for either Thursday, Sept. 16 or Saturday, Sept, 18. Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics has six performances from September 16-19 at the arena. There is a limit two free tickets per family.

 In addition to the ticket giveaway, children attending are encouraged to dress as their favorite Disney character and enjoy various Disney-themed crafts with assistance from members of Metro Edge Figure Skating Club of Missouri and St. Louis Synergy Synchronized Skating Teams. Activities will take place in the air-conditioned comfort of Chaifetz Arena. 

 “This is the perfect opportunity to involve your children in the giving process,” Jennifer Miller, KidSmart president said. “Disney On Ice is creating opportunity for them experience how good it feels to give and rewarding it can be it at the same time.”

The donations will go directly to children in need in the St. Louis area.

To qualify for the free voucher to a Disney On Ice performance, the donation must include at least five new packages of the following most-needed items: crayons, scissors, pencils, glue (stick or liquid), pens, folders, markers, colored pencils or spiral notebooks.

Since opening in 2002, KidSmart has distributed more than $15 million in school supplies to more than 45,000 economically disadvantaged children in the area.

Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics brings to life the stories of favorite Disney princesses Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Mulan, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, their dashing heroes and their devoted side-kicks. Tickets for Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics at Chaifetz Arena, September 16-19,are available now at the Chaifetz Arena Box Office, disneyonice.com or METROTIX.COM.
